“Be sure to lie to your kids about the benevolent, all-seeing Santa Claus. It will prepare them for an adulthood of believing in God.” – Scott Dikkers
Sunday, December 7th
Last December, we had a very practical conversation with the kids about the spirit of Santa being very much alive but that we did not feel that Santa was a real person. Well, the kids have decided to proceed with the Santa folly all the same this year independent of that conversation.
Then randomly, my daughter asked what God was like. Her Dad responded that God means different things to different people, and that God could be more vast than any one person’s belief. The ways that kids question and process these weighty topics is fascinating. She said that God was a He. There definitely were not other humans in the universe, or any other living things on planets. And more interesting theories.
I like being more mum about these topics. Let the kids formulate their own beliefs and share what we personally hold dear to our hearts. I feel that this will teach our children to be critical thinkers throughout life.
Do you believe in Santa Clause?
