One Hundred Forty Nine: Talent Shows

“Hide not your talents, they for use were made, What’s a sundial in the shade?” – Benjamin Franklin

Thursday, May 29th

On Thursday, I snuck into a talent show at my daughter’s school. I had seen a rehearsal and wanted to see how the kids would do in front of the entire school as an audience. My son, sister-in-law, and I stayed for the first half so we could catch three of my daughter’s classmates perform. One is a natural performer, but two of the children surprised their parents by boldly requesting to participate. This endears me to those children and to our supportive school community – it’s amazing that our kids feel secure enough to perform in front of 500+ people.

The act that stole my heart was a dance performance to “Best Day of My Life” by American Authors – something that came to be known as a hip-hop act to my five-year-old daughter And to get meta about it all, my favorite video is one of said daughter gushing profusely over this child’s “fresh moves”. I love love love seeing my child excited and inspired in such a positive way by one of her peers.

If you could share one talent in front of an audience, what would it be?
